About Jake
Jake Mossman began playing the guitar and composing at the age of twelve. He played in both R&B and Rock bands and drew inspiration from a wide variety of music before focusing on Classical and Flamenco guitar. After completion of a BFA in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of New Mexico in 1997, he began a lifelong pursuit of Flamenco guitar accompaniment and soloing. Jake learned to accompany dancers and singers by attending the famous Flamenco Festivals in Albuquerque, produced by the Enciñas family, and many of the legendary performances in Santa Fe by Maria Benitez & Co. After several years of accompanying dance classes and performing with dancers and singers, Jake went to Madrid, Jerez & Sevilla, Spain to study Flamenco. He eventually moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he studied with Adam del Monte, taught Flamenco at Pasadena City College and played regularly with singers and dancers at local venues. Jake and his family lived in Las Cruces, NM from 2005-2021, where he taught and performed both Classical & Flamenco guitar.
While living in Las Cruces, NM, Jake produced Flamenco Fridays (see promo video), a popular monthly Flamenco concert series in coordination with New Mexico State University and The Ramada, which featured renowned Flamenco artists from the US and Spain. In addition to Classical compositions and repertoire, Jake is always working on original Flamenco compositions, and produced an original Flamenco CD entitled Hefesto. Jake now lives outside of Asheville, NC where he shares the art of Flamenco and promotes awareness of this vivid and living art form. |
